Here’s what Bear had to say about his music for “Caprica”. Please visit Caprica-City.de for our complete interview: www.caprica-city.de (German) www.caprica-city.de (English) Bear McCreary: “Battlestar”, you have to remember, musically started out very simple. There were no character themes, in fact I was told not to have character themes. “Caprica” is very different because at this point, the producers know me well and they are more open to ideas. The score to “Caprica” in general is simpler, much more western. It’s much more classical. I think I wanted to do something different and ultimately I was faced with this question, what is different than “Battlestar Galactica”? Well, in “Battlestar Galactica” there is a lot of ethnic music, it’s music from every continent, with instruments from throughout human history. It covered a lot of bases. What could I possibly use on “Caprica” that I haven’t used on “Battlestar”? That’s when it occurred to me, the way to make “Caprica” different is to make it more …

Dude your music is awesome. What is the name of that flute like instrument used in Battlestar’s music?
There’s a facebook page called “Caprica for season 2!” so if you want Caprica for season 2, join!
I love Bears’ music. It may be laced with Phillip Glass undertones but I just cant get enough!
@adam010289
if you find out, let me know! I would love to have the music sheet too!!!
Anyone have the sheet music? or know where I can buy it?
@ISAFWolf is philip glass related to ron glass?
@johnnecron
I said the very same thing on another forum entirely, a blog by Doug Drexler, prop designer & artist for BSG & Caprica as well as TNG, DS9, Voyager & Enterprise. Doug D. agreed w / me as well.
This guy is amazing. Never watched the battlestar show but stumbled on his music and can’t get enough.
Bear you are a incidental music composer genious. You are up there with some of my favourites. Roger Limb, Lovett Bickford and Paddy Russel, all who worked on classic Doctor Who.
To me this musical theme has a very haunting and meloncholy sound that takes me back to believe it or not, DARK SHADOWS
OMG, I want these notes for piano…
McCreary you’re my herooooooooooo !!!! Best TV show soundtrack ever !
Oh wow.. I love this! I can’t wait for the sheet music! I have the BSG sets, I want Caprica’s too!
I sense those elements & more, with the promise of hope as an undercurrent.
I agree with the idea of being tired of going down the path of destruction from listening to right – wing nuts, etc.
Caprica is like every major civilization that’s existed on Earth, albeit with more technology. It seems to be a combination of 1930’s N. America, Canada, Europe & slightly more advanced contemporary N. America, etc.
@musimundi More like feeling like the end is near, kind of like how many people feel about our world, and i am not talking about 2012. if you look around more and more people are preparing for a day without being connected to our current governments. and being tired of how they keep going down the path of destruction from listening to the right-wing nuts who are afraid of everything, and who hate their own people!
That, and Jimmy Gibbs.
The melody is very simple and easy to play, but very beautyful. He´s genius.
Sorry guys, I accidentally deleted some comments I didn’t want to delete.
That would make you a pedophile.
“Bear” is what you meant. Bear Bear’s children.
well said, but as you can hear in my video response, the Philip Glass influence is replaced with a Battlestar drum beat, unfortunately.
mournful & intriguing
sums up the two families i guess
if the laws of nature allowed it, i would bare that man’s children
The music is awesome! I had not paid attention to the score until I read Bear McCreary’s blog. I feel a sense of loss, but at the same time the hope for a way.
This theme represents the pain of battle. The sense of loss, emptiness, supported by the key of G minor … Nice work with great influence on Philip Glass.
Haunting, somewhat mournful & melancholy ( foreshadowing the tragedy of loss ? ) but very well – done.
